Devil's Den Arkansas

Backpacking with Roy Fergason in early March. The first night we spent in Devil's Den state park, and the weather was in the upper 60's. That night a cold front blew in, and the next day temps dropped from the 50's in the morning to the 30's by evening. We were mostly out of the wind, and dressed for cold weather, so hiking was pretty good. We hiked about 7 miles the first day, and made camp up on a hill. The 7 miles didn't include all the side trips we took to see the great scenery. We were tired by the end of the day, but thankful we were still alive. Not bad for young geezers. The next day we made about another 7 miles, and did not push ourselves either day. We made camp along Lee creek near the state park the third night. We used someone else's fire ring from long ago, and firewood was everywhere, so the cold wasn't bad. My pack started at 41 pounds, and didn't seem to lighten up much. I need to figure out a lighter pack, and a pad that doesn't go flat after 5 minutes.

Practicing again

This was last June's trip to the Guadalupe with Erica and Damon. The campsites are riverside, which is handy for jumping in and cooling off in the Texas heat. The afternoons were spent floating in our inner tubes tied to a boulder in the middle of the river. And of course throwing the frisbee. We floated a couple of miles down to our camp, but the river was low, and a little slower. Hopefully this year will have more water. Always better than working.

Howdy again. Traveling in our livin room. Tryin to figger out how this contraption works. That way I'll be a perfeshunal once we hit the road. We went to Mineral Wells state park with Erica and Damon this week. They stayed in a shelter, while we stayed in our aluminum tent. We hiked a little around the climbing rocks, and Erica talked me into jogging the next morning. Now my calves are yelling at me. I need to get better at remembering to take pictures when we go camping. It's Shelly's fault. Hey, why not. She usually blames me, so since she doesn't want to type this, it will be her fault any time something goes wrong.

Cave man finds computer

Cave man attempts first blog! Cave man meets pretty woman. Drags her by hair into aluminum cave and makes her travel with him. Cave man thinks about retiring, and how to remember all the places we go. Bingo. Blog. Random letters, aren't they. Just like piano, and smorgasbord. Almost ready now. Post!
