Shagadelic rally and more!

   Wednesday, May 15
Shelly and I left around noon heading south for Austin. We left our Airstream in McKinney falls state park, and drove to Kyle to pick up some aluminum propane tanks. I had bought them on Craigslist a month ago for $125, and are only now picking them up. We were hungry, and stopped in Kyle at Casa Maria restaurant. The place looked new, and we were hungry. Seemed like a good combination. I ordered Machacado, which is dried shredded beef, scrambled in eggs with onions and peppers. It was delicious, and was less than $7. Shelly got quesadillas and was also great. I think we found our new favorite restaurant. We'll be back in a few weeks for the San Marcos rally, so we plan on being hungry again, as we pass through Kyle. We walked down to the falls and took some pictures before relaxing in the recliners. We talked to Erica, and she said her and Damon were in their closet, because of the severe storms.  She told us the storms hit Granbury hard and were in Cleburne now. Bentley does not like raccoons to walk through our campsite. Just saying.

Found out on the news, Facebook, and phone calls that Cleburne was hit pretty hard from a tornado. Was probably a good time to be in Austin. We heard Cleburne was declared a disaster area.
Shelly and I hiked down Onion creek from the upper falls to the lower falls. It is a great trail to hike on, and a nice park. $20 per night water and elec. Drove from McKinney falls to Bend. Once again we thought we'd be one of the first there, but just about everyone was a day early. The Barefoot campground is way off the beaten path, but that means it is quieter. It's not far from Colorado bend state park. Walked around and met everyone before Shelly cooked leftover quesadillas. It is 90* this afternoon and humid. The owners of the camp drove us over to their new leaning bluff lodge to show it off. It is decorated in a rustic western  theme, and is nice. We sat and talked until dark.
  Friday, May 17
We hiked to Gorman falls with Binky, Shirley, Laura, Dan, and his wife. We started about 10, which should have been fine this time of year, but as luck would have it, it is going to be a record high today. And it's still humid. The falls were beautiful, but we were soaked in sweat by the time we got back to the truck. Shelly is giving me a hard time for suggesting taking the road back, instead of the trail, because the road ended up being longer than the trail. I talked with Pat McDowell and Paul about holding tanks! Exciting stuff, I know, but I'm still learning. The potluck supper was great again, and we visited with several couples and listened to their travel stories. One of the stories was about Baja California, which might be a great winter trip. Maybe this January.
  Saturday, May 18
We had open house at 1 pm today, and we got to take a lot of pictures to get ideas for our restorations in progress. We visited with everyone. The catered barbecue supper was great and the hippie contest was comical. Shelly and I tie dyed our shirts, and she had turned our pants into bell bottoms. We both had peace sign necklaces. Bill and Candy stole the show, with Bill wearing a wig, leather hat, and polyester pants and shirt, from his brother's collection.
   Sunday, May 19
Got up early, and got ready to leave. Said our goodbyes, and headed north to home! After the past few weeks, and the somewhat hectic pace of Eureka Springs and Albuquerque, we were both ready to get home.
